Women's Soccer Announces 2007 Signing Class

Seminoles sign five freshmen to national letters of intent.

Tallahassee, Fla. - The Florida State Women's Soccer team and head coach Mark Krikorian announced Wednesday, February 28, their freshman signing class for the 2007 season. The Seminoles signed five freshmen to national letters of intent. The newest additions to the Seminole soccer team include midfielder/defender Rachel Brown, midfielder Amanda Da Costa, forward Marissa Kazbour, goalkeeper Erin McNulty and forward Jessica Price.

Rachel Brown, Midfielder/Defender, Lake Mary, FL

Brown has over 12 years of club soccer experience as she is currently playing for the Florida Soccer Alliance. She played four years for the IUS Club U-17 HAYASA in the Region III Premier League. She was a member of the Florida State ODP Team from 2002-05, while participating in the Region ODP Camp for three years (2002-04). Brown played four years of varsity soccer at Orangewood Christian School before transferring to Lake Mary High School. At Lake Mary, she served as a team captain for two years guiding her team the State 6A Final Four in 2006-07, while finishing as the State 6A runner-up in 2005-06. The Lake Mary, Fla., native earned all-state, all-Central Florida, all-Seminole County and all-Seminole Athletic Conference first team accolades during the 2005-06 campaign.

Krikorian on Brown: "Rachel is tough, athletic and a very strong player. She is a player we believe to have a tremendous upside as her game involves quickness and a level of physical play. Her soccer play is quite good at this point and what stands out the most is her great athletic ability. She is a versatile athlete that can play anywhere on the field. She is another newcomer we are expecting to work hard to compete for playing time."

Brown's Club Coach: Kim Montgomery and Bill Eissele

Amanda Da Costa, Midfielder, Katonah, NY

Da Costa played for the U-17 national team and was invited to three national team camps. Da Costa was a member of the ENY North ODP team, while playing for the Region 1 ODP team all for five years. She was a five-year varsity soccer athlete at Somers High School where she earned all-section and all-league honors four times, while receiving league MVP accolades twice. Da Costa was also named to the North County News and Journal News first team three times. In 2006, she was named a high school All-American, while being named Player of the Year by the Journal and North County news publications. Da Costa earned second team all-state recognition, while leading her team to the New York High School State semifinals.

Da Costa selected Florida State over Marquette, Maryland, NC State, St. John's, Charlotte, Boston University and Binghamton.

Krikorian on da Costa: "Amanda has a lot of special attacking qualities. She has great technique and her vision on the field is outstanding. She has the ability to create dangerous situations out of nothing, while being able to escape pressure at any time. She is a player we are hoping will step in and create scoring chances, while helping to build our attack."

Marissa Kazbour, Forward, Valrico, FL

Kazbour was a member of the U-17 national team in 2006. She served as a team captain at Bloomingdale High School and on her club team Countryside in 2006 and 2007. Kazbour was named an NSCAA All-American during her senior year at Bloomingdale. She led her high school team in goals during her junior and senior seasons. Kazbour was named Hillsborough Country Player of the Year in 2006 after leading her high school to a state runner-up finish. In 2005, Kazbour was a member of the state champion Lakeland Lazers U-18 team. She participated on the ODP state team while serving as a Region III pool member. The Valrico, Fla., native was named a first team all-county and a third team all-state during her sophomore season. As a freshman, Kazbour started for Bloomingdale High and led the team in goals.

Kazbour selected Florida State over Florida, Central Florida and Tennessee.

Krikorian on Kazbour: "Marissa is very versatile with an exceptional psychological dimension. She's a winner that will provide a competitive edge and certain toughness on the field. She seems to find a way to will her way to victory. She is a very valuable addition to our team as she has the ability to play any position on the field."

Erin McNulty, Goalkeeper, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

McNulty participated as a full team member of the U-15, U-16, U-17 and U-18 Canadian Youth National team and has been invited to every national team camp since 2004. She started in goal in a three game series against Germany in the Maritimes as a member of the U-15 national team. She also started in goal for the U-18 national team at the 2005 adidas Cup in Houston, while playing in net for the U-17 national team in a three-game series against Germany in Newfoundland. McNulty was a member of the Canadian U-19 national team that took part in the world championships in Thailand. She also started in goal for the U-20 national team at the CONCACAF qualifying tournament in Veracruz in 2006. McNulty is currently a member of the U-20 Canadian national team which is preparing for the world championship in Chile in 2008. She signed with the Ottawa Fury, two-time eastern conference champions and two-time national finalists of the W-League, in May of 2005 and 2006. She also signed with the Fury for their upcoming W-League season in 2007. An honor roll student her sophomore and junior year of high school, McNulty was the recipient of the Manitoba Soccer Presidents Choice Award in March of 2006.

Krikorian on McNulty: "Erin is athletic and experienced. She has been with the Canadian National team for a few years now. What I saw from her during her time with the Canadian team was that she was a very good goalkeeper. She has a huge upside and fantastic potential at that position. She is a player that will compete and solidify our goalkeeping situation with the graduation of Ali Mims. We expect her to come in and compete for playing time at the goalkeeper position."

McNulty's Club Coach: Frank Lofranco

Jessica Price, Forward, Libertyville, IL

Price is currently playing for the Eclipse Select 88/89 which is ranked as the number one club team in the nation. A five-time Club State Champion, Price was a recipient of the adidas Golden Boot Award in 2006 while playing for the USYS U-17 national championship team. She also competed as a member of the Illinois ODP state team in 2003 and 2005. Price attends Vernon Hills High School and was voted one of Illinois top 20 recruits by the Chicago Sun-Times. She was the single season leading scorer in 2005 registering 21 goals and 14 assists on her way to earning all-conference and all-sectional honors. Price also earned all-state special mention accolades as a forward. The Libertyville, Ill., native was named to the 2005 Daily Herald all-area team, while earning Pioneer Press Rookie of the Year accolades. Price also earned high school varsity letters in soccer, basketball and volleyball. She was a three-time letter winner in varsity track competing in the 100m dash and long jump events.

Price selected Florida State over Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin-Madison, Marquette, Kentucky, Drake and Miami (Ohio).

Krikorian on Price: "We are excited to have JP join us. She has been playing with an outstanding club in the Eclipse, which has done a tremendous job in her development as a player. She is an attacking player that is capable of scoring goals through the run of play as well as capable of scoring on set pieces. She is a great attacker both in the air and on the ground. We are looking forward to her contributions to this team and we believe that she will have a very bright future here at Florida State."
