TAMPA, Fla. – The University of South Florida women’s soccer team beat the University of Tampa, 1-0, in the first outing of the season Saturday night at the USF Soccer Stadium.

Junior forward Lindsay Brauer (Daytona Beach, Fla.) notched the only goal in the three-period, 70-minute exhibition match. Sophomore midfielder Kaneile Thomas (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) sent a lead pass to Brauer, who crossed the ball into the upper left 90 of the net for USF’s goal.

“I’m happy we won,” said Denise Schilte-Brown after her first game as the head coach of the Bulls. “By the end of the game we had accomplished the goals we had set out for the night.”

The Bulls continue exhibition play August 21 in Orlando as the USF faces Northern Illinois at 7 p.m., then plays UCF August 25 at the same time and place.

USF’s regular season debut is August 31 in DeLand when the Bulls meet the Stetson Hatters at 4 p.m.

The Bulls’ first home game is September 28 against preseason No. 10, Connecticut, at 7:30 p.m.
