Women’s Soccer Puts Down Wolves

8/31/07

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Using a balanced offense and stifling defense, the Lynn University women’s soccer team blanked the University of West Georgia 4-0 Friday afternoon. Raisa Kanji and Kristina Garcia scored their first career goals and Molly Anderson notched three assists as the Fighting Knights improved to 2-1 on the year.

Trying to atone for last season’s loss to West Georiga (0-3), the Blue and White jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute. Kanji floated a cross just outside the 18-yard box to Anderson, who tapped a pass to an open Brittany Evernden. The sophomore midfield fired a shot past keeper Patricia Logsdon for her second goal of the year, matching her total from last season.

Lynn poured out 16 second half shots, with the first coming just over a minute into the period courtesy of Kanji. Anderson sent a low ball through the middle of the field that squirted past the Wolves defense. Kanji collected the pass and slotted a shot from 10-yards out, inside the left post, for the goal.

The Knights’ defense didn’t give UWG any room to move, suffocating its offense and allowing just three shots, with only one going on net. Natalie Feller made one save in picking up her first career shutout.

Not satisfied with a 2-0 lead, Lynn tacked on two more goals over the final 17 minutes of play. Anderson picked up her third assist of the contest after grabbing a loose ball on the right sideline and sending in a beautiful cross over the Wolves defense. Summer McPhillips waited patiently as the ball just made it over the central defender, allowing her to head the ball through Logsdon’s fingertips and into the net.

Newcomers Alyssa Judd and Kristina Garcia closed out the scoring in the waning moments of the game. Playing in her first career game, Garcia crashed the goal on a free kick by Judd in the far corner and easily headed in the ball past the diving keeper.

For the game, LU out-shot UWG 28-3 and won the corner kick battle 4-1.
