SCHULZ ACADEMY BEATS US NATIONALTEAM IN ACADEMY LEAGUE
March 31, 2008
2 goals by Matias Alvez made history on Saturday in the game of the U16
Schulz Academy team vs. the U16 US National Team. It was the first loss
of an US National Team since the start of the Academy League.
“I think based on the number of goal scoring opportunities and our
superior fighting spirit we deserved the win today. Bryan Sylvestre, the
goalkeeper of the U16 US National Team, made some great saves in the
beginning, otherwise we could have decided the game already much
earlier” stated Dr. Schulz after the game.
“It was a key game for us in the South East Division. And after the 5-0
loss of Kendall in the Sunday game vs. the US National Team we are in a
good position to qualify for the National Finals in Los Angeles in
summer. Our team plays extremely well right now, and we go with a lot of
confidence into the next games”, continues Fitz Sinclair.
After threatening the US goal already early with some great shots, and
also hitting the crossbar, Matias Alvez opened the score with a curling
shot from outside the box, which surprised a very strong Bryan Sylvestre
in the goal of the US National Team.
An outstanding defense headed by CJ Phelps and Sean Hart made sure that
the attacks of the skill full National Team players were already stopped
before the box.
Steven Saballos in the midfield always was in control of the game, and
reigned in the midfield, even some times under pressure by 2 US National
Team players. He was the main connection to Matias Alvez, who was
unstoppable on this day. Not only did he score both goals, he also
created 3 more goal scoring opportunities by himself. The defense of the
opponent didn’t really have an answer to his powerful runs.
After the US National Team tied the game late in the second half, both
teams opened up to win the game.
And in the last minute it was Schulz Academy’s Hasani Sinclair, who made
a great dribbling on the right side outside of the box, serving the ball
to the middle of the goal mouth. Matias Alvez was earlier in the right
position than the defender, and put the ball into the net for the game
winner.
The referee added 5 more minutes because of different substitutions and
injury delays, and despite some scary situations in front of their goal,
after the US National Team desperately tried to tie the game, Schulz
Academy deservingly came out with the 3 points.
“After winning the Champions Cup for Clubs last weekend this victory
against the US National Team was the confirmation that we do a lot of
things right in our Academy. From my point of view we are only in the
beginning stages of creating something big here”, Dr. Josef Schulz,
President of the Schulz Academy speaks about the future.
