Team Boca's Reign Continues
With Two More State Championships
May 17, 2008, Pensacola, Florida... Team Boca, the travel division of
the Soccer Association of Boca Raton, earned two more coveted Florida
State Championships by winning the Girls Under 15 and Boys Under 18
divisions of the prestigious Florida Youth Soccer Association's State
Cup Championships. The Girls Under 15's, coached by Scott Baker, had
wins over Sunrise 3-2 in the semi-finals, and over Inter United Soccer
Club from Orlando in the championship game, by a score of 1-0. The boys
Under 18's, coached by Michael Araujo, earned their championship win
with a 2-0 victory over Orlando area's Central Florida United Club, and
a 3-2 victory over Real Salt Lake from Tampa in the championship. The
boys team had to overcome missing five players for the semi finals due
to conflicts with their High School graduation, however, those players
drove through the night on Saturday to Pensacola just in time to just
make the championship game on Sunday morning. Both teams now qualify for
a trip to the Southern Regionals in Raleigh, North Carolina, June
19-25. The winners there earn a trip to the National Championships,
this year held in Arkansas in July.
Team Boca had the most teams of any club in the state to win the FYSA
State Cup, with two, tying RSL Tampa. Since 1998, Team Boca has
qualified more teams into the State Championship Final Four than any
other club in the state, with 43, with 12 teams winning the state
championship. Earlier this year the Team Boca Girls Under 17 Navy team
was also victorious at the FYSA President's Cup, which is the state
championships held for for teams that are considered Division 2 level
teams. "We have always stressed individual player development as our
top priority, and if you maintain that priority then team success will
always follow, as evidenced by our results in State Cup over the past 10
years" said Team Boca Director, Bill D'Addio
