USF's Chelsea Klotz and UCF's Kevan George have been named the
Soccerfla.com Players of the Week. The award goes to the top players
from a Florida school for his or her performance over the past week.
Klotz scored two times including the game winner in the 104th minute as
the University of South Florida women’s soccer team pulled out a 3-2
victory over Illinois State in a thrilling double-overtime contest.
With the game tied 1-1, Klotz would give the Bulls the lead as she split
the defense and sent a rocket past the keeper with the assist coming
from fellow freshman Noelle Pineiro in the 54th minute
Illinois State would again tie the game at two sending the contest into
overtime.
Klotz would end the game in the 104th minute as Amanda McCormick lofted
a pass to Klotz on a breakaway and she put in the game winner past the
diving keeper.
“Chelsea’s athleticism really stretches the defense,” added Schilte-Brown.
“She is a great kid with the right attitude.”
Klotz is a true freshman from Lakeland and she played for RSL.
UCF's Kevan George scored a goal for the second game in a row. His 62nd
minute strike proved to be the difference as the Knights defeated host
Old Dominion 1-0 in the finale of the ODU STIHL Soccer Classic.
In the 62nd minute, George broke the scoreless tie when he took a long
throw in from Cameron Cooksey and headed it past ODU keeper Brennan
Kirkpatrick to the far post for the eventual game-winner. It was
George’s second goal of his career.
On Friday George scored his first collegiate goal. With the Knights
trailing 1-0 early in the second half, George blasted a shot from 22
yards out past William and Mary goalkeeper Andrew McAdams for the
equalizer in the 60th minute.
George's weekend performance got him named to the ODU STIHL Soccer
Classic All-Tournament team.

Concorde Fire.
