West Pines dominates Florida Cup

West Pines United FC enjoyed an impressive showing at the recently
concluded 2008 Florida Cup held in Delray Beach, Florida. This US Club
Soccer event saw West Pines United FC enter teams in six age groups in
the U11 – U14 divisional format & by tournament’s end, West Pines United
FC had displayed their dominance by capturing 5 championships & 1
finalist in their respective age group divisions. Club President Todd
Goodman commented on his Club’s success, “ We as a Club were quite proud
of the results we produced, but more importantly, it was our display of
skills, passion and determination under some strenuous conditions which
was the most impressive over this past weekend. This should serve us
well as we prepare for our upcoming seasonal play”.
U12 Boy’s Division:
West Pines United Black, coached by David Cunningham & a newly formed
team coming together for their first tournament, opened their group play
with a 7 – 0 victory over Pinecrest Premiere. Their second match of the
day was against Miami Beach Soccer with West Pines equaling the previous
score line with another 7 – 0 victory. The following day, they recorded
a 5 – 1 victory over Palm Beach Soccer Academy which placed them into
the afternoon final with a rematch against Pinecrest Premiere where they
duplicated their opening match result with an astounding 7 – 0 victory.
U13 Boy’s Division:
West Pines United Black, coached by Richard Jobson & fresh off their
recent Atlanta Cup championship, continued their impressive play while
capturing yet another championship. In a group where total points would
determine the final outcomes, their first match was against South
Florida Elite which ended in a 8 – 0 victory. Their second match saw
West Pines square off against Weston Fury Nike which resulted in another
8 – 0 victory. The following day, West Pines faced Clearwater Chargers &
were victorious by a 2-1 score. Their last match of group play was a 7 –
0 victory over Cutler Ridge Soccer.
U14 Boy’s Division:
West Pines United Black, coached by Henry Pedraza & last year’s
defending FYSA State Cup Champions, placed as finalists in the recent
competition. In a group where total points would determine the final
outcomes, their first match was against Weston Fury Premiere 94/95 &
they were victorious in a 1 – 0 score line. Later that afternoon, they
faced off against Boca United Gold & found themselves victorious once
again by the same 1 – 0 score. The following day, they won 4 – 1 against
Kendall Soccer Coalition. This set the stage for their final match of
group against South Florida Elite where they found themselves on the
losing end of a 7 – 0 match.
U12 Girl’s Division:
West Pines United Adidas, coached by Wayne Smith & fresh off their
recent finalist showing at the Atlanta Cup, opened their tournament
against Delray Beach Hott Shotz and recorded a 6 – 1 victory. Their
second match was another victory, this time by the score of 6 – 0
against Pinecrest Premiere. The following day, they beat Boca United
Gold by the score of 4 – 0 and which earned their rightful place in the
final against Treasure Coast United where they were victorious by the
score of 2 – 0.
U13 Girl’s Division:
West Pines United 95/96, coached by Todd Goodman, who also serves as
Club President, added yet another championship to their impressive
resume. In a group where total points would determine the final
outcomes, West Pines United squared off against Boca United Gold in the
opening match with both teams very well knowing that this result would
propel the victorious side as the front runner for the coveted
championship. Upon the final whistle, this exciting match ended in a 2 –
2 draw, leaving both teams the daunting task to battle the tournament
tie-breaker process for the remainder of group play. Later that
afternoon, West Pines were victorious against Wellington Wave by the
score of 6 – 0. The following day, knowing goal differential was of the
utmost importance, West Pines produced a 5 – 1 victory against RSL
Florida. In their final match of group play, they were once again
victorious over Jupiter Sting by the score line of 4 – 1.
U14 Girl’s Division:
West Pines United, coached by Franchot Harris & fresh off their
impressive run in the recently concluded Super Y- League season,
captured another tournament championship. In their opening match, West
Pines were on the victorious end of a 1 – 0 score against West Pasco FC.
Later in the day, their second match was against a familiar Super
Y-League foe in Miami Strike Force which ended in a 0 – 0 draw. The
following day, they were victorious again by the score of 2 – 1 against
RSL Florida which set the table for a rematch showdown against their
opening match opponent, West Pasco FC. This championship final ended
with West Pines being crowned as champions with a 3 – 1 victory.
