Women's soccer falls to Kennesaw State, 4-0
Owls add two goals each half in victory
KENNESAW, Ga. - Oct. 3, 2008 Kennesaw State scored two first-half goals
and never looked back en route to a 4-0 win over the JU women's soccer
team on Friday night in Atlantic Sun action at KSU Soccer Field.
Senior forward Rachel Baer scored two goals for the Owls (6-3-3, 1-1-1
A-Sun), while freshman forward Brittany Vining added two assists and a
goal in the victory. The Dolphins (4-6-1, 1-2-0) managed only nine shots
on goal in the match to start a three-game road trip.
"We gave up two early goals, which put us in a huge hole," said JU head
coach Brian Copham. "We came out a little slow and Kennesaw State took
advantage of it because they are a good team. I did like our effort and
the way we challenged for balls, but we just couldn't get out of our
holes. We will have to put this one behind us and regroup for Sunday."
Baer gave the Owls a 1-0 advantage less than two minutes into the match
after scoring on a cross from the left side by Vining. Baer and Vining
combined on assist less than a minute later to freshman forward Kristin
Kranick, who scored her third goal of the season to give the Owls a 2-0
lead.
In the 56th minute, Baer tapped her second goal of the match on corner
kick from sophomore defender Carolina Austin, while Vining added her
fourth goal of the season less than three minutes later to secure the
win.
Senior forward Keri Zwikker had three of JU's nine shots on goal, but
couldn't connect on one in the back of the net.
Sophomore goalie Staci Pugh made five stops in more than 71 minutes
between the posts for the Owls. Freshman goalie Alexa Rooney recorded
four saves on 23 shots on goal for JU.
The Dolphins look to bounce back on Sunday against Mercer in Macon, Ga.
Kick off is set for 3 p.m.
