Klotz, Lofton-Malachi lead Bulls past DePaul, 1-0

TAMPA(10/5/08) - The University of South Florida women’s soccer team finished up the weekend with a strong team effort to leave Chicago with 1-0 victory over DePaul, thanks in part to a goal from freshman Chelsea Klotz and junior goalkeeper Mallori Lofton-Malachi’s fifth shutout of the season.

“We are a very proud of the team,” said Bulls head coach Denise Schilte-Brown. “Today was a great team effort. We really got a lot of contributions from a lot of different players, which is what we want.”

The Bulls would take the lead in the 73rd minute when Klotz took a through pass from fellow freshman Noelle Pineiro and would send the game-winner home from the left wing from 15 yards away. The goal marks the fourth goal of the season for Klotz and the second game-winning goal for the freshman. The assist is the third on the season for Pineiro.

“It was really a great pass from Noelle and great finish from Chelsea,” said Schilte-Brown. “Noelle played a great game today for us.

The Bulls would squash any offensive attack that the Blue Demons would mount in the final 16 minutes to preserve the 1-0 advantage.
