Men's soccer season opener at FAU cancelled due to rain
Dolphins led 3-0 at half before storms forced cancellation
BOCA RATON, Fla. - Sept. 1, 2009 The JU men's soccer team couldn't game
plan against mother nature as thunderstorms cancelled the Dolphins'
season-opening match at Florida Atlantic on Tuesday evening. No makeup
date has been announced.
The Dolphins got to a quick 3-0 lead in the first half on a pair of
goals from junior forward Nedim Hrustic and a score from freshman
midfielder David Santa Maria. The match was delayed at half time for
more than two hours before it was officially cancelled.
JU and Florida Atlantic needed to hit the 70th minute for the match to
become official.
"I was pleased with the effort we showed today," said JU head coach Mike
Johnson. "We created several scoring opportunities and played well
defense. Overall, you can't account for severe thunderstorms some days.
We are excited about how we played in the match and looked forward to
carrying this momentum into the weekend."
The Dolphins return to action on Friday against Winthrop for the Coaches
for a Cure Classic in Boiling Springs, N.C. Kick off is set for 4:30
p.m.
