Berkeley Prep senior forwards Taylor Batye and Samantha Newhaller have both committed to play collegiately at Navy, Buccaneers coach Ken Roberts said Monday.

"It's pretty interesting," Roberts said. "It wasn't planned. It wasn't a package deal or anything. They went on their seperate paths and ended up there together.

Batye and Newhaller scored 12 goals apiece, tied for third on the team, for a Berkeley Prep team that reached the Class 3A region finals last year.

Also, teammate Amber Famiglietti, a senior center midfielder, has committed to play at Swarthmore, a Division III school in Pennsylvania, Roberts said. Famiglietti missed the first two months of last season with a foot injury.

Berkeley returns 14 of 18 players from last year's team, which went 19-4-2.
