Bulls wrap up non conference schedule with win

Tampa- The University of South Florida men's soccer team finished up the
non-conference portion of its schedule with a matchup against Dartmouth
tonight at the USF Soccer Stadium in the first ever matchup between the
two programs.
Senior Midfielder Jorge Mora's goal at the 26:30 mark in the first
period would turn out to be the eventual game winner for the Bulls.
Dartmouth came out firing in the first period as they took three shots
on goal in the first 9 minutes of play.
Sophomore defender Aubrey Perry led USF to its first good chance of the
game. Perry drove the ball down the right side of the field and crossed
it over to senior midfielder Zak Boggs. Boggs passed the ball over to
Mora and he took a shot on goal but it was saved by Dartmouth goalkeeper
Sean Donovan.
USF had another good chance off a free kick from Javed Mohammed.
Mohammed lobbed the ball towards the Dartmouth goal and Ashani
Fairclough jumped up and headed the ball just wide of the goal.
The Bulls wouldn't waste its next opportunity though at the 26:30 mark.
Mohammed took the ball down the left side of the field and passed the
ball over to Hasani Sinclair. Sinclair sent the ball on to Jorge Mora
who would kick into the right side of the goal. The goal was Mora's
second of the season. The Bulls carried a 1-0 lead into the half.
The match turned into a defensive battle between the two teams during
the second period. Dartmouth held the momentum entering the second half,
but the Bulls would steal that momentum half way through the second
period.
Dartmouth had a good chance at the 57 minute mark off a cornerkick from
Andrew Olsen. Olsen bent a cross towards the USF goal but Attinella came
up with the save.
Attinella had another big save for the Bulls at the 62 minute mark.
Dartmouth forward Luckymore Mkosana took a shot on goal after receiving
a pass from up field.
Attinella finished the night with eight saves to give tally the shutout.
With the shutout, Attinella recorded his sixth shutout of the year and
he is now 10-2-2 on the season.
Dartmouth goalkeeper Sean Donovan had a total of three saves on the
night with one goal allowed.
With the win the Bulls are now 10-2-2 on the year and Dartmouth falls to
8-3-1.
The Bulls will play against three BIG EAST foes to close out their 2009
season starting on Saturday, October 24, when the Bulls host Villanova
at the USF Soccer Stadium. The game is set to start at 7:30 p.m.
The Bulls game against Villanova marks the first of a two-game home
stand for USF that also includes DePaul on Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m.
The Bulls will close out the regular season on Oct. 31 when it travels
to New Jersey to face Rutgers at 7 p.m.
