FIU breaks school record for wins
10/23/09
MIAMI – From the moment sophomore Thaisa Moreno pumped her fist after
drawing a penalty shot, you knew the forward expected nothing less than
a goal.
Turns out Moreno’s sixth goal of the season was also her third
game-winner in the FIU women’s soccer team’s 1-0 victory versus UALR on
Friday night. With the win, the Golden Panthers (9-5-3, 7-1-1) broke the
school record for the most wins during the Sun Belt season.
Of their nine conference opponents thus far, the Golden Panthers have
held all but two teams to one goal or less. Friday night’s shutout was
the sixth of the season and the fourth for goalkeeper Kaitlyn Savage.
The Golden Panthers return to the field on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they
host Arkansas State.
