3/17/10
The Seminoles will continue
their spring schedule in Melbourne, Fla. this Saturday against the
University of Florida.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State
women’s soccer team fell to Sky Blue on Wednesday evening in a spring
exhibition match at the Seminole Soccer Complex. The match marked the
first of two games the Seminoles will play against a professional team
from the Women’s Professional Soccer League right here in Tallahassee.
In Sky Blue’s first live action since arriving in Tallahassee last
Thursday to begin their two-week training session, the defending WPS
champions registered five goals while holding the Seminoles scoreless.
The two teams played three 30 minute periods on Wednesday as
each period was scored separately.
Sky Blue’s Natasha Kai scored
two goals to lead all players, while Heather O’Reilly tallied a pair of
assists.
Florida State’s Tiana Brockway registered the first
shot of the game firing from just outside the 18-yard box forcing Sky
Blue keeper Karen Bardsley to come up with a save. Kai broke the
scoreless tie in the ninth minute putting away a header from close range
on a cross from the left side by O’Reilly to give Sky Blue an early 1-0
lead.
Sky Blue capped the scoring in the first 30 minutes on a
goal by Laura Kalmari at the 22:15 mark. The forward from Finland took a
pass from Jessica Landstrom and lofted a shot inside the upper right
corner from 25 yards out for a 2-0 advantage.
Tori Huster notched
FSU’s second shot of the period in the 27th minute firing wide of the
net.
Sky Blue wasted very little time getting on the scoreboard
in the second 30 minutes of action scoring on a left footed shot from
about 30 yards out off the foot of Rosana. Kai gave Sky Blue a 2-0 lead
as she registered her second goal of the evening in the 14th minute
finding the back of the net once again on a header off a cross from
O’Reilly. The Blue went up 3-0 with less than three minutes remaining as
Kristen Edmonds squeezed a shot from inside the right post off a double
assist from Carli Lloyd and Kalmari.
The final 30 minutes
finished in a 0-0 tie as FSU keeper Kimmy Diaz made four saves including
a pair of nice stops from close range. Diaz finished the game with nine
saves.
Florida State will return to the field this Saturday,
March 20 as the Seminoles travel to Melbourne to take on the University
of Florida.
