MIAMI KICKERS F.C. OPENS HOME SCHEDULE SATURDAY NIGHT

6/19/10

Kickers Look to Avenge Loss to Brandon FC

Miami Kickers F.C. will look to capture its first win of the season in its home opener on Saturday night against Brandon FC. The Kickers (0-1-1, 1 point) fell 2-1 at Brandon on June 5th, and were held scoreless in a 0-0 draw on the road against the South Florida Strikers on June 11th. The match will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 19 at American Heritage School in Plantation. Admission is $8.00 for adults and $4.00 for children, and free for youth players wearing their club's jersey.

Brandon FC (1-1-0, 3 points) got off to a quick start in the first meeting between the two sides, scoring two goals in a five minute stretch early in the first half. Both scoring opportunities were created by Brandon forward Noelle Pineiro, who was credited with an assist on the first goal when the rebound from her shot was tapped in by teammate Olivia Bloemke, and scored the second herself on a 20-yard strike. Pineiro provided a tough, physical, presence for Brandon on the offensive end throughout the match.

The Kickers' lone goal of the season came early in the second half off the foot of 2009 Player of the Year April Perry. The goal was scored on a penalty kick in the 61st minute of the match. Miami controlled possession and applied pressure throughout most of the second half, but could not come up with the match-tying goal.

In their last outing, the Kickers threatened all 90 minutes, taking 19 shots to South Florida's 4. First-year Kickers Haleigh Stremanos, Laura Weinberg and Jenn Martin led the team in shots, and combined to hit the pipes four times.

The young talent up front should again be a factor on Saturday night as Miami looks to find its offensive rhythm. The Kickers badly need the three points to give chase to Sunshine-leading FSA Freedom (4-0-0, 12 points). The Freedom have outscored opponents 14-1 thus far this season.
