U9s Go 3-0 in Flight, Lose to Parkland in Championship at
Weston
May 1, 2005 - The u9 team played their first full-sided tournament (6v6) this
weekend
at the Weston Invitational. The team showed how much they have improved as we
swept all of our
games in our Flight, got to the final, but were out played by a more experienced
Parkland
team.
Both our u8 and u9 team have now combined for three entries in tournaments (two
at FAU
and one at Weston) and we have gotten to the finals two of three times. That is
quite a
feat for a team that did not even exist 2-1/2 months ago.
The team opened up in the first game and defeated Boca United 2-1. This was a
very
close game and might have been our best performance of the weekend. This girls
were
fresh at this point and played some excellent defense. In the second game, we
were matched
up against the Weston Red team. This game was tied at half-time, but we had a
big second half
and went on to win 5-2. In our final game in our Flight, we defeated Palm Beach
United 3-0.
That set up the championship game with our friends from Parkland. We had some
good
chances in the first half but could not finish. Parkland ended up winning
this game easily 5-1. As of today, they are simply better than us. As of
tomorrow,
well, we will try to change that.
