U9s Win FAU 5v5 Tournament, 10s Drop a Close Game to the Eagles
Boca Raton, Florida (April 9, 2005) - FAU hosted their
annual 5v5 tournament this weekend. The tournament is a fundraiser for the FAU
soccer teams. This was our second year participating, and it continues to be a
very well run and fun event.
The u9s won their second tournament in eight days by winning the U9
Championship. The girls went undefeated, winning all three of their matches over
the Renegades, Team Boca and Palm Beach United. The PBU game was a close game,
and the team had to overcome a 2-0 deficit, but managed to do so to grab the 3-2
victory. Last week, the 9s won the Nova Spring Shootout. Between both
tournaments, the girls have a 7-0 mark, and have scored 30 goals and allowed
just 5.
The 10s went 1-2 in the tournament. The u10s got to play a very close and
competitive match with the Eagles. Plantation took a 1-0 lead on a direct
kick-in from the touchline. Sunrise tied the game midway through the second half
on a Westerlind goal. The Eagles then took the 2-1 lead on an "own goal", as a
Sunrise defender attempted to clear the ball out of the box. Sunrise
also defeated Parkland Academy and lost to Treasure Coast.
