Weekend Recap

Dorosy Registers a Hat Trick for U10s, Simpson Scores Twice

December 10, 2006 - The Sunrise girls’ teams went a combined 5-1 on the weekend raising the overall season record to 16-2.

The U14 Premier girls defeated Kendall Hammocks 4-1. Hammocks was undefeated going into the game. The Premier team advances to 4-1 on the season.

The U14 Select team played the Eagles. For third time in four weeks, Sunrise and Plantation battled in a close game (the previous games were u11 matches). Like the previous two, Sunrise won by a margin of one goal, this time 3-2. Select’s other game against Key Biscayne was a forfeit. The Select team is 5-0.

The U11 Sting split games this weekend. Saturday night was a match of two unbeaten teams, as the Sting faced Royal Palm Beach. In the second half, Zoe Estevez laid out a beautiful corner kick that Alexis Gifford knocked in for the only goal of the game. That win left only Sunrise and Weston as undefeated in the u11 D2 standings. Unfortunately, that did not last long. The Sting, due to some conflicts, entered the Sunday morning game against Miramar with only nine players, and an early injury to goalkeeper Angie Benson left the team with no substitutes for the final 3/4 of the game.

Sunrise out shot Miramar 6 to 2 in the first half, but Miramar had the better of play in the final fifteen minutes and scored with one minute remaining to hand the Sting their first loss of the season, 1-0. The team had some fantastic goalkeeping by Benson, Valerie Weinbrum and Taylor Shore. The U11s are now 4-1 and have only allowed two goals through the five games.

The U10s were on the road against Wellington. Wellington is a very good team, but everything seemed to go perfect for Sunrise in this game, and taking advantage of a strong wind, the team played one of their best games ever and won 6-0.  Dallas Dorosy had three goals, Brittany Simpson two and Rylee Simons added one to lead the team. The U10s are 3-0.
