Weekend Recap
January 7, 2007 - The Sunrise girls teams went 3-1-2 on the weekend, raising the overall season mark to 20-3-2.
The U14 Premier team had a tough weekend, losing on Saturday to undefeated
Kendall by a 2-1 score. Haleigh Stremanos scored for Sunrise on a free kick. In
the Sunday game, the team played PBU. Going into the weekend, PBU, Sunrise and
Weston were all locked in a three way tie for second place. PBU scored two goals
early but Sunrise fought back to tie the game 2-2. Goals were scored by Haleigh
Stremanos (assisted by Sarah Motta) and by Melisa Camacho (assisted by Danielle
Grossman). The team is now 5-2-1.
The U14 Select team defeated Hobe Sound on Friday night 2-0. The team then tied
Miami Premier 1-1 on Saturday. The Select girls are 6-0-1.
The U11 girls played Team Boca on Saturday. Each team had one loss going into
the contest. The girls played one of their better games of the season and won
this game 4-1. The passing was very good for the u11s. Alexis Gifford did a
great job in the goal. Danielle Westerlind scored two times from the center
midfield position. Both were from about 20 yards out. The first was assisted by
Julia Jaffe and the second by Caitlin Crespo. Jaffe also scored two times,
both assisted by Westerlind. The U11s had only scored five goals in the previous
five games, so putting four on the board in this one match was a pretty good
showing. The game marked the return of Natalie Montemorano, who had been out for
a few months with an injury. Montemorano played almost the entire game and did
very good. The U11s are now 5-1.
The U10 girls beat Miramar. Angie Benson played 3/4 of the game in goal. This
was her first significant outing since returning from an injury. Miramar had one
great opportunity when one of their forwards shot a long and high ball from
about 20 yards away to the far post. The ball had some wind under it and Benson
had to run to catch the ball in the air, which is exactly what she did, in order
to prevent the goal. It was a very nice play. On the offensive end, Dallas Dorosy had three goals, two were unassisted and one was set up by a Sydney
Talbot pass. Talbot also had a goal and Julia Jaffe had one off of a beautiful
cross by Valerie Weinbrum. Weinbrum played very well in this contest.
