Sunrise Goes a Cool 5-0 on Opening Day at the Showcase
Gainesville, Florida (February 17, 2007) - The four Sunrise girls teams played
five games today on a cold day in Gainesville and won them all for a nice
opening day performance. It was in the high 20s at daybreak in Gainesville, and
the games had to be delayed by 1/2 hour to let the frozen fields thaw. But it
actually turned into a pretty nice day with clear skies, a mild wind, and
temperatures rising into the 50s.
The weather was just fine for the Sunrise girls as the u11s got the party
started with a 7-0 victory over GAS Adrenaline. Goals were scored by Mackenzie
Imamura, Hannah-Jo Isaacson, Zoe Estevez and Dani Westerlind. In the nightcap,
the girls were equally as impressive running away with a 9-0 victory over
Auburndale. Four players had two goals each - Julie Konners, Zoe Estevez,
Mackenzie Imamura and Hannah Joe Isaacson. Westerlind added one. Goalkeeper
Alexis Gifford picked up two shutouts in the process.
The u10s had a good game with the Bay United Sharks (Panama City). A Dallas
Dorosy and a Julia Jaffe goal gave Sunrise had a 2-0 lead when a defensive
mistake made the game 2-1. Valerie Weinbrum scored two second half goals to
given the Sting the 4-1 win. Sunrise had a big shot advantage and the razzle
dazzle passing game was on display.
The u14 Premier girls defeated Space Coast 2-1 and the u14 Select girls topped Valrico 1-0.
