Sunrise Wins Two Titles at Palm

April 29, 2007 – Sunrise entered two girls teams in the 10th Annual Palm
Bay Spring Challenge and both teams, the u14 (92/93) Select and the u10
(96/96) Sting,
brought home championship trophies.
The U14 Select team, playing in the National division, went 3-0-1 during
the course of the tournament. The team gave up an early goal to
Titusville in the opener, and had to fight hard to get the equalizer in
the closing minutes for the 1-1 tie. The team played well in the final
two preliminary games, topping Vero Beach 5-0 and Satellite Beach 6-0.
The championship was against the East Orange Lady Knights. The Knights
advanced with a 2-0 win over Satellite Beach, a 2-2 tie with Team Boca
Red, and a 4-1 victory over Vero Beach.
Select won the championship by a 3-0 score. The title capped off a good
year for the Select team. The girls also made it to the final of the
Hackworth-Davis Cup, they won the Region A Cup (division II), made the
finals of the FLUGSA playoffs and finished in first place during the
FLUGSA regular season (division II).
The Sunrise Sting u10 team also won the championship. The girls played
up one year in the u11 Continental division. In preliminary action, the
Sting defeated Rockledge 5-0, First Coast 4-0 and Space Coast 4-0.
That put them team into the finals against the CFU Krush Blue. The Krush
advanced with wins over Creeks Clash 3-1, the Storm 3-0 and a 0-0 tie
with Palm Bay. Sunrise won the title game by a 2-0 score. For the
tournament, Sunrise scored 15 goals and allowed zero. The shutout
performance made the Sting the only girls’ team out of 80+ teams on the
girls’ side not to allow a goal for the entire competition.
