Sunrise Sting 96/97 Girls Win Tampa/St. Pete 3v3 Super Challenge
Clearwater, Florida (May 20, 2007) - The 96/97 girls team ventured into brand
new territory by entering the Tampa/St. Pete 3v3 Super Challenge. This was a
very big tournament with over 200 teams and was put on, in partnership, by
Kick-It 3v3 and Challenge Sports. There were ten teams entered in the u10
competitive division and all, except for Florida Premier, were competitors that
were new to the Sting. The girls had a lot of fun as they got to execute their
3v3 skills and played against new teams.
The girls were excited to play the Tampa Crew in the first game. The Crew was
made up of players from HCU. HCU had recently won the Region C Cup for division
1. The opener was a very close contest as HCU displayed excellent skills,
played great defense and moved the ball really well. HCU had a 1-0 and 2-1 lead
in this game, but the Sting got hot in the second half and ended up winning 5-2.
The team had an easier time in the next two games winning by comfortable
margins. In the playoffs, Sunrise knocked off the St. Pete Raiders and also had
a second match with the HCU girls. The second contest was as tough as the first
and Sunrise got by with a 4-2 win.
The finals turned out to be a repeat of the McDonalds tournament from the week
before, Sunrise and Florida Premier. Sunrise finished first and Florida Premier
took second.
