Select Opens Season with a Win
Sunrise, Florida (August 19, 2007) - The u15 Select team, coming off Region Cup
and FLUGSA regular season championships from last year, opened up their 2007
campaign with a 4-2 win at Nob Hill Park. The team played against Naples, a
State Cup team from last season, and won 4-2. Playing in the black and gold for
the first time, Courtney Walsh scored the first goal off of a rebound from the
right post from a shot from Tatiana Penagus. That tied the game at 1-1, which is
how the half ended.
To open up the second half, Penagus sent the ball down the right flank to Alissa
Lawson. Lawson took the ball almost to the end line on the right side of box and
shot the ball past the keeper to make it 2-1. Later, Walsh hit Penagus with a 15
yard pass from the half line and Penagus beat the Naples defenders to make it
3-1. Another Penagus breakway made it 4-1. Naples closed with a late goal for
the 4-2 final.
The Sunrise defense did a good job with Alexis Blumberg playing sweeper for the
first time. Morgan Sullivan made several saves as the keeper.
