Sunrise girls' teams have a good day at FLUGSA Jamboree

Miramar, Fl (October 6, 2007) – The Sunrise 96/97 and 98/99 girls teams played today at the annual FLUGSA jamboree and both teams were quite impressive. Each team played three games that were twenty minutes in length. The two teams, playing against prospective Division 1 competition, won five games and lost one, the teams scored 18 goals and allowed only two.

The u11s won all three of their matches. The fields and the goals for this event were quite small, and were probably better suited for 5v5 than 8v8, but the girls adapted very well to this environment and scored a boatload of goals by many different players. Playing in the three matches against the Renegades, South Dade and Wellington, in only sixty minutes of playing time, the Sting outscored their opponents 12-1.

The u9s were really the highlight of the day for Sunrise. The u9s team is completely composed of players straight from the recreational league and was making their FLUGSA debut. The girls played three teams, but two of these teams had a bunch of players with one year of travel experience under their belts. That, however, proved to be not much of a problem, as the u9s looked like the team with the experience. The girls controlled the flow of play in each and every game, and won their first two games by scores of 3-0 and 3-0. In the final game, despite out shooting their opponents by about a dozen shots, the girls dropped a 1-0 decision. The lone goal that the girls gave up was the only shot on goal allowed by the team all day long, but it proved to be the killer. Despite that, it was a fantastic debut for the team and the girls are only going to get better and better as they continue to learn and as they gain club soccer experience.
