Sunrise Wins Two Titles at West Pines

October 21, 2007 - Sunrise won two titles at the West Pines Kickoff Classic. Both the u9s and the u15 Premier team won the championships. Of the seven top tier divisions for the different age groups, despite only having four entries, Sunrise won two of these age groups, another good showing for the club.

The Sunrise u15 girls played in the High School division and came away with the Championship after five hard fought matches against some of the states better U17 and U18 teams.

Sunrise started the tournament with a 3-0 victory in a rain-shortened match with the U18 Jupiter Sting. Next came the U17 Wellington Wave. This match was a hard fought contest with Sunrise coming out on top 1-0. Sunday morning started with a 2-0 victory over the U17 Renegades from Coral Springs. This victory put Sunrise into the semi-finals of this 14-team bracket against a previously undefeated U-17 Naples Sharks. Sunrise started slow, but pulled out a 7-1 victory and a spot in the finals against host U-17 West Pines United.

Being the third match of the day, the finals were shortened to 20-minute halves. This match looked headed into PK’s, but with minutes remaining the Fire scored claiming a 1-0 victory and the title of 2007 High School Division Champions.

The players on the team now return to their high school teams. Most of these young ladies are playing for the top high school programs in Broward. The team returns to competition at the Orange Classic.

The u9s did fantastic in their first tournament. The girls went undefeated defeating Davie, Pinecrest and West Pines in bracket play by a combined score of 11-2. The championship match was against a very good Wellington team. The game was very close but Sunrise pulled out the 2-1 victory to win the championship. It was exciting for the parents to watch how much the girls have learned in their first couple of months of development.
