Sunrise u15 boys win easily in Plantation

The u15 girls are defeated by Chile

November 25, 2007 - The Sunrise u15 boys won the Plantation Thanksgiving Classic for the second consecutive year. The boys played five games and won all of them. The team defeated West Pines, Team Boca, Florida Premier, Kendall and then Parkland for the championship. The u11 girls and the u15 Select girls, champions of this tournament last year, took the weekend off and did not play.

The Sunrise u15 Premier girls had a friendly scrimmage with the Chilean U-17 National Team on Saturday. Chile defeated Sunrise 3-1. It was a great experience for the girls and this was a hard fought match. Sunrise got off the first shot of the game a few minutes into the game when a Caroline Miranda shot was deflected outside the box. Chile's Gisela Francisca got off a sharp shot moments later that was saved by goal keeper Anastasia Mesa. Chile had another good chance later in the first half on a shot by Sofia Macchiavello Holley. The first half ended in a 0-0 tie.

Chile came out fast and furious at the beginning of the second half when Katherine Haide Silva Antunez took a shot on the run off of a perfect through pass. The shot went off the cross bar. Yipsi Yanara Ojeda Menares followed with a bulled that was saved by Mesa. Chile's Holley had a breakaway five minutes later that Mesa came out of the net to save. Chile finally scored on a cross by Menares that was knocked in by Holley. A minute later Antunez scored from 20 yards out to make it 2-0.

Sunrise came back after that. Danielle Nguyen had a great chance at 59:00 when she found herself on the weak side of the box alone but her shot went just high. A Tatiana Penagus and Melisa Camacho 1-2 combination resulted in a shot and a save. A Chile foul from 20 yards out resulted in the Sunrise score when Penagus nailed the ball into the back of the net.

Chile scored their third goal late when Ann-Margrite Strabucchi Borregaard scored off of a corner kick to give Chile the 3-1 victory.
