Weekend Recap
U11s drop game to West Pines
December 2, 2007 - The girls' teams went 2-2-2 on the weekend, as both the u11s
and the u9s lost their first games of the season. It was another classic battle
for the u11s with West Pines, however, this time, the result was in Pines favor.
Sunrise played decently in the first half but did allow two first half goals and
found themselves down 2-0 at half-time. West Pines scored at the 6-minute mark
on a perfect cross and finish. It was one of the nicest looking goals ever
scored against the Sting. At 16-minutes, Pines scored their second goal on a
scramble inside the box for the 2-0 lead. Both teams had six first half shots.
Sunrise played a terrific second half but it would not be enough. The girls
scored two times, first, on a flat angle shot from the left side, that was set
up by some nice combination passing, and then on a long shot from one of the
backs that the Sunrise forward knocked in on the rebound. West Pines did
manage one goal in the second half off of a corner kick, and that would prove to
be the game winner, as Pines won the game 3-2. Sunrise had 20 second half shots
as opposed to four for West Pines.
On Sat 12/1 Sunrise U14 played Renegades in a match that started off very slow for Sunrise. They hadn’t played a game in 2 weeks , had 4 injured players and it showed. With just a few minutes left in the first half the scores were Renegades 2 Sunrise 0. Sunrise stepped it up and score a goal right before halftime. Second half was better with Sunrise scoring again to tie it up 2-2. Although we had shots on goal we just couldn’t put it in.
On Sun 12/2 Sunrise played Cutler Ridge. Sunrise Fire was on fire today dominating the whole game. With only one sub on this hot afternoon, the girls played hard. Tatianna scored three goals and Kassandra scored one with an assist from Kaitlyn. Cutler Ridge scored with a header from a corner kick. The final score was Sunrise 4 Cutler Ridge 1.
The u9s split games, winning on Saturday against West Pines and losing on Sunday against Wellington. The u12s tied Wellington 0-0.
