Weekend Recap
January 27, 2008 - The girls' teams, by winning all five games, finish the
month of January undefeated. The teams went 13-0-1 for the month. The u13 boys split games on the weekend.
Four of the five victories for the girls were shutouts. The u14 (93/94) teams had two games. On
Saturday, against Cape Coral, the team scored three goals early and added two in
the second half for a 5-0 win. Sunday was a big game against second place Pinecrest. Pinecrest scored first but Sunrise tied when Tatiana made a beautiful
cross from the end line that Haleigh took out of the air and one touched it into
the net. In the second half, Sunrise scored early to make it 2-1, but a
Pinecrest breakway made it 2-2. With time running out, Monica took an open shot
from the midfield that went over the keeper for the 3-2 lead. The Fire
controlled the rest of the game and went home with the win. The team is now
8-2-4 and in second place.
The u12s (95/96) defeated first place Wellington 1-0 on Saturday. This was a
defensive struggle and in the final minute, Mariana Domine scored the winner on
a free kick. On Sunday, the 12s defeated Cooper City 5-0. The team is now
10-1-2.
The u11s (96/97) shutout Plantation 3-0. Sofia De la Puente scored the first
goal off of a Dallas Dorosy cross. Later, De la Puente took a shot that was
knocked in by Julia Jaffe on a rebound. Dorosy had the third goal of the game.
The Sting are now 7-1-1. Angie Benson, Julia Kingsley and Sara Bowden all
combined for the shutout as goalkeepers.
The u9s had a 6-0 win over West Pines.
The u13 boys had two games. They lost to Delray 2-1 and then defeated Plantation 4-0. The team is now 8-2-1 and in second place.
