U9's win Naples 3v3 Challenge
March 22, 2008
With the regular season over and after finishing a terrific FLUGSA Regular
Season the U9 Girls set their sites on tournament play. Entering the Naples
3v3 Challenge they were ready to build upon what they had accomplished during
the regular season. But were they ready for the challenge that they were about
to face? Not having enough U9 teams entered into the tournament they were bumped
up into the U10 division.
Their first game was against Pete's Dragons. At first, playing against bigger
and more experienced girls seemed to be a challenge for the younger U9 team.
Playing a bit tentative the Sunrise Sting fell behind 3-0. But that did not last
for long. Utilizing their speed and talent they outplayed their bigger opponents
in the second half en route to a 3-3 tie.
In the second game playing the U10 SKS Sirens, the Sunrise Sting continued where
they left off. They came out sharp, playing better and better as the game
progressed. Their hard work payed off defeating the SKS Sirens in a tough game
6-5.
The third game playing against a good U10 Moxie Crue team, the Sunrise Sting
U9's stepped it up a notch. They came out on fire, scoring the first goal of the
game within the first minute, setting the tone for the rest of the game and
coming away with a 4-3 victory and capturing 1st in their group with a 2-0-1
record and a place in the championship.
The championship game was against the Weston Wave, the only other U9 team in the
tournament. The Sting was ready to take it all and it showed. They came out
firing on all cylinders, controlling the game from start to finish. Winning the
game 8-2 and capturing the championship.
The girls played extremely well and we are very proud of them.
Thanks to coach Andres for a great job he is doing with the girls, it shows.
Keep up the good work.
